Because my friends smeared me with the Flattrack virus I built this 1 cylinder Flattracker last winter.
My goal was to build a light bike with which I could learn to drift on the circuit in Lelystad.
I chose the engine of a Honda XL500S from 1980 because I know from experience that this engine has a very pleasant engine character.
The engine has been completely overhauled and left internally quite original. A larger piston of the brand "Woessner" has been mounted which makes the engine capacity now a small 520cc.
I did optimize the breathing of the engine as much as possible by using a large K&N air filter in combination with the self-made exhaust system which has little back pressure.
Of course the tuning of the carburettor (with acceleration pump) is tuned to this.
The bike is built with the following components:
* Frame and engine:: Honda XL500S 1980
* Tank: Honda XR80 1978
* Carburettor: Honda XL500R 1982
* Exhaust silencers: Honda CRF 450 2015
* Front fork: Yamaha R6 2003
* Shockabsorbers: YSS custom-made by Promax from Schijndel
* Chainstays KTM EXC 2005
* Wheels BMW R80
Parts such as the exhaust system and the saddle come from our own kitchen, furthermore many parts have been modified and rebuilt.
The building has been a nice process, and the icing on the cake is of course riding this well steered flatcracker:-)
