Rick's Electronics Lithium Regulator

Many Caferacer builders decide (logically) to switch to a lithium battery. These are much lighter and more powerful than a standard lead or gel battery. In addition, you can assemble them however you want!

However, what many people forget is that the bike often originally has a lead or gel battery, and all the electronics is built to work with that. For example, it may be that the bike does not charge the battery in a proper way and therefore it will not last as long as it could.

Ricks Electronics offers the solution with a replacement rectifier for your motorcycle that is suitable for lithium batteries. This way your expensive lithium battery will last extra long without hassle!

Do I need a new rectifier?

You don't really need a new rectifier until it is broken or when you change to another type of battery such as a lithium battery. To find out if your current rectifier is defective you can take the following 3 steps:

Step 1

Set your multimeter to measure DC voltage and connect the positive and negative leads to the matching battery terminals. Your battery should be charged, giving you a reading of approximately 12.5-12.9 volts DC (check your particular battery’s specifications for exact numbers).

Step 2

Start the motorcycle and rev the motor to 5000rpm.

Step 3

Using the multimeter, test the same battery terminals again. You should receive a reading of 13.5 to 14.5 volts if your rectifier-regulator is functioning correctly.
