Installation Tips for Brake and Clutch Levers

You'll find that changing a motorcycle's levers is a rather simple process. It’s definitely a project you can DIY! Start with setting up the bike in a stable position. You will need to apply some force during this procedure, so the help of a stand will be, well, helpful.

After the bike is properly set up, the bolts must be taken out with a wrench. Take care not to damage the brake cable when you loosen the lever retaining screw.

Placing the replacement brake lever in the same location as the old one is the third step. Make sure you are clear on the position when you remove the lever to keep everything the same. Your lever kit may have a hole in the front of the lever, in which case you will need to fit the brake switch pin there. All you need to do is screw the brake lever back on after completing the entire procedure.

To replace the clutch lever, you must first unscrew the bolt, take the clutch lever out, carefully unplug the clutch cable so as not to break it, and then lubricate the parts and install the new lever.

Start the bike and check its condition to see if the clutch is as ergonomic as possible and to your satisfaction.

Many questions about clutch / brake levers have already been answered for you!

Choosing the right product can be a challenge sometimes. You may not have the right fit or it may not work right away. Therefore we have answered the most questions from our customers on this subject. You will find all the information you need here.

Are clutch and brake levers universal?

Clutch and brake levers are relatively universal, but compatibility depends on certain factors. For clutch levers, there are two main types: standard and hydraulic. Brake levers, on the other hand, must match the size of your master cylinder pump, which typically ranges from 14mm to 16mm. While many levers can fit a variety of models, it’s important to verify compatibility with your bike's specific requirements before purchasing.

Are brake and clutch levers adjustable?

Many modern brake and clutch levers are adjustable. They often have an adjustable mechanism that allows you to customize the distance between the lever and handlebar. This ensures a comfortable grip and improves control, accommodating different hand sizes or riding preferences.

Are longer or shorter levers better?

The choice between longer and shorter levers depends on your riding style and preference. Longer levers provide more leverage making them ideal for riders who want maximum control and comfort. Especially during long rides. Shorter levers are lighter, more compact, don’t break easily, and better suited for aggressive riding or off-road use.

What materials are brake and clutch levers made of, and which is best?

Brake and clutch levers are typically made from aluminum and stainless steel. Aluminum levers are lightweight and resistant to corrosion, making them a popular choice for most riders. Stainless steel levers are more durable but heavier, ideal for those that want longevity.  The best material depends on your riding style and preferences, with aluminum being a versatile and reliable option for most riders.
